I don't think theory means what you think it means.

This was a great thread before two of the worst posters on the site made it a rest home.

 

Yeah, poor dear sweet innocent Nixon, cruelly done in by the liberal snots.

After 39 years, the butthurt still burns.

 

Yeah, those eastern snots. They actually had the gall to have a headquarters at a hotel. The nerve of them, tempting the opposition to spy on them!

 

Since 1974-75, the GOP and its corporate media machine has sold a mythological storyline of butthurt that America was once a "shining city on the hill" which has been destroyed by Liberal Hippies.

Since then, Watergate and the downfall of Nixon has been blamed on Liberal Hippies. Nixon himself had nothing to do with it. The butthurt still burns.

They also -- this was real big during the Age of Reagan -- ascribed the loss of the Vietnam War to subversive Liberal Hippies. The Vietnam War was a noble cause cruising toward a rousing victory, derailed by those grungy unwashed Liberal Hippies. If they had only sat down and shut up (or somebody made them), we would all be taking summer vacations in Nixonopolis (the new name for postwar Hanoi).

Once they started gaining traction on those two fronts, the GOP Butthurt Brigade seized onto just about every other aspect of social/political progress in the 1960s/70s (Civil Rights, women's rights, environmental protections) as also products of the stinky Liberal Hippies.

Oh for the golden days in America when you could call a spade a spade, slap your broad around if she lipped off to you, and spend Sunday afternoon dumping 55-gallon drums of DDT into your nearest river.

The Liberal Hippies ended all that, and we've been getting a steady stream of butthurt from the righties about it for 40 years now.

Gotta love A_QB posting something like that, then whining about the use of "butthurt" He also seems to have put a tremendous amount of thought into the status of Ryan Braun's balls. Maybe it's a love-hate thing with him.

 

Since 1932-33, the Democratic Party and its media lapdogs have sold a mythological narrative of butthurt that the America that could have been was stymied by obstructionist crypto-Nazis who call themselves conservatives.

Since then, any and all instances in which the left's vision fails to materialize in full flower can be blamed on myriad nefarious influences, but never the actual merits of that vision. Liberalism wasn't to blame; if only those dastardly conservatives would get out of the way. The butthurt still burns.

If those crypto-Nazis had only sat down and shut up (or somebody made them), we would all be living the good life, drawing 14 months pay for 12 months of work and wondering which local technocrat to bribe to get bumped up a notch or two in the queues.

Oh for the golden days in America when you could envision nothing happening unless it had been approved by both the union (at both the local and the national level) and the nearest commissar for economic planning. We came close in the late 1960s ... that Summer of Love, it was right there ... and the memories of those golden days makes the butthurt even stronger.
