I like the bio his publisher literary agent used:

BARACK OBAMA is the junior Democratic senator from Illinois and was the dynamic keynote speaker at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. He was also the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. He was born in Kenya to an American anthropologist and a Kenyan finance minister and was raised in Indonesia, Hawaii, and Chicago. His first book, DREAMS FROM MY FATHER: A STORY OF RACE AND INHERITANCE, has been a long time New York Times bestseller.

Wonder if Obama hired those folks in Iowa to work for his NSA? They sound like his kind of guys.

The person who wrote the bio said she made a mistake. Because his father had the same name and was born in Kenya, it's not that hard a mistake to make. Several other articles published around that time have his birth place listed as Hawaii.
The state of Hawaii also has his place of birth listed as Honolulu, so that settles that argument.

Then why are his college records protected more than Fort Knox? Where his grades that bad? I keep getting told how brilliant he is.

Not trolling. If Obama had been born in Kenya, to an American mother, using the suddenly developed Ted Cruz standard, he still would have been eligible to be President.

Of course, Obama wasn't born in Kenya, he was born in Hawaii, so it doesn't matter.

But I've been thinking about it and I was wondering what the right leaning types here thought.

Again, this is all based on junior high civics but the GF, who is quite a Republican, doesn't think Cruz is eligible.

There's also a question, raised in some media outlets, about the dual citizenship, Cruz's birthright, considering where he was born. The consensus opinion was he would have to give that up.

Cruz is a native of Canada. There's no arguing that.

The question is what does that mean to the Constitution?

Tony, your college records are protected more than Fort Knox. So are mine and everyone else's here who went to college.
There's a federal law about that. Look it up.

    I've never disputed this.

I just think it's funny as hell.

And yet, the New Yorker was able to get Bush's college records:

And, the press had confidential records of Joe the Plummer within 24 hours of him embarrassing candidate Obama.

But, let's be honest. The press has never been that curious about the President's personal history. They let him define it in his own books, which we later learned were full of condensed events, composite girlfriends and other characters, turning points that were fiction, and blurred timelines.

Cruz is a U.S. citizen because his mother is a U.S. citizen. There are two kinds of U.S. citizens, natural-born and naturalized. There's no third kind. If you're not one, you're the other. If you did not have to go through the naturalization process to become a citizen, it would make sense to me that you're natural-born.
