Talked today with a Republican friend. Romney guy. Serious issues with Obama on a variety of fronts.

Says to me: "If we don't win this election, we need to figure out what we're doing wrong. It shouldn't be this close."

All these polls and pundits telling us the results in advance take all the fun out of a national election. Whatever fun might be left, that is. The process is a mess.

Pollsters are still running off the 2008 model and continuing to ignore 2010. Here's a couple of polls for you: Scott Walker and Ron Johnson elected in 2010; Scott Walker re-elected in the recall election in June of 2012 by a larger margin than he won in 2010.

No matter who wins Tuesday, the country won't be better off for a while.

It took a while, too, after Nov. 1980.

This is getting posted on Facebook by some people, but not verified by any reputable media source. Just like the whole "A couple having sex was shown on the SkyDome JUMBOTRON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" stuff that is only found on blogs and wikipedia.

Attributed to Valerie Jarrett, who I guess is an Obama adviser?

“After we win this election, it’s our turn. Payback time. Everyone not with us is against us and they better be ready because we don’t forget. The ones who helped us will be rewarded, the ones who opposed us will get what they deserve. There is going to be hell to pay. Congress won’t be a problem for us this time. No election to worry about after this is over and we have two judges ready to go.”

Or we can weigh the states by their turnout in 2010, a very good Republican year. But that doesn’t help, either: instead, Mr. Obama leads by 2.1 percentage points based on this method.
