Nate Silver not seeing a comedown for Obama since the convention. Says the only polls where Romney is keeping it close are landline/robocall polls. He also said early in the week there seemed to be a post-convention fade for Obama, but not anymore.

It's almost as if people have found a new reason not to vote for Mitt.

You know who could use some of that RNC cash right now?

    Mitt Romney.

Just saw a note on Twitter that Mr. Romney is going to release his tax returns at 3pm.

If true, is it a Hail Mary to save the worst week this terrible campaign has had yet? If so, can it succeed?

    Politico has it.

A 20-year tax rate "summary." Not the returns.

And his 2011 return, which he always planned to release.

    2011 tax return, apparently.

    So one. One return.

Also says Romney and Ryan are releasing physician records -- I expect to find out that Ryan has a 19-inch penis and stays fit by playing hoops with a lead basketball.

Which can be safely assumed at this point to be complete bullshit, since he's had months (years) to have accountants scrub them up all purty.

Seriously, though -- and mostly toward YF -- the no-tax-returns was a hill this campaign chose to die on. And now they're backing away and caving. Based on this and "47 percent" and backtracking from his embassy comments and the way he's getting killed by his own party's supporters, is there any conclusion to draw other than this is the worst and most disorganized campaign we've seen in the modern era? Bob Dole was boring and had the impossible task of running against Clinton at the height of boom times, but even he didn't pratfall his way through September.

Paging George McGovern to the courtesy phone, please.

    Good note.

Was McGovern undone by a million little bungles? Or just one big thing?

I see. It's the old "we're doomed anyway, so easier to blame someone else than offer solutions" theory. OK.
