Same was largely true in Wisconsin, but progressives were a faction of the Republican party under Fighting Bob La Follette.

Couldn't be that they all work for defense contractors these days, could it?

I don't care who wins as long as someone finally does something for the common good of the country. It's not like there's a shortage of problems to fix.

Wow, thanks for posting this. My son is in his high school's Navy ROTC, and plans to do ROTC (probably an Army program) in college. He's talked a little bit about interest in West Point, but he has no plans to be a career officer, so I'm not sure his going there would be a good idea. This article helps make the case.

Now back to politics: Yours suck. Mine are great. Repeat.

Compared with other Midwest states, yes. A social conservative cannot run and win for Governor or Senate. (Pawlenty was fairly centrist in his campaign).

You're asking for logic from a person who has named themself "3OctaveFart?"

Any thoughts about Pawlenty as VP? Could he have made a difference in Minnesota?

I kind of doubt it, but it also doesn't look like Ryan is going to make the difference in Wisconsin, so it makes you wonder about other possible choices.

So, when does this thread get cut off? When the polls close; when the networks call it; when the SCOTUS issues it's ruling, deciding the election?

Should we congratulate ourselves now for a mostly fun, if somewhat raucous, thread?

Wisconsin has more German/Polish ancestry and they tend to be less liberal, economically. Yet Wisconsin also has very distinct political hue, depending on the area.
Republican: Milwaukee suburbs, Green Bay/Appleton, southwest corner of state.
Democratic: Milwaukee city, Madison, southeast of Madison (Paul Ryan's district, oddly enough), far northern Wisconsin.

The areas close to Minnesota also tend to vote like Minnesota. Fairly left-leaning from Superior to La Crosse, with the exception of the MSP suburbs in Wisconsin, which are very Republican.

Technically it's the politics thread and not the election thread. Maybe it's gone so well that we'll get to keep it?
