    Re: THE 2012 POLITICS THREAD

The original plan was Friday, so winners could gloat and losers could gripe and plot for 2016 and complain how much the next four years will suck. However, it has gone pretty well. We may keep it open a while longer since it has worked reasonably well.

I will say this: I only check in now and then. I may take some time and go back and if I see someone has posted here without following the rules, do something. We made a couple simple requests and most of you have followed to the letter. If you are one who hasn't, well, remedy that please

    We do appreciate it.

I thought a Romney/Pawlenty ticket would've made some inroads, with two former governors of blue states. Yet the Ryan selection is actually playing better in Iowa than it does in Wisconsin. At this point, I think Iowa is the most likely of the IA/WI/OH/NH "firewall" to go for Romney. He needs more than Iowa, however.

Relying on your veep to close the deal is like John Madden's phrase about quarterbacks: If you have two presidential candidates, you have no presidential candidate.

My guess is none of those states go to Romney.

If any of them do, I'm sticking with my Wisconsin Wildcard theory.

Once they're retired, it's their prerogative. Did you ask Eva Longoria if she's wasting her money playing to her base?

Can we refer to them as the Washington Generals?

If this baby's still around for the fiscal cliff, I demand our right to post Coyote/Roadrunner pics.

To me, it seems that a VP pick has more downside than upside. I suppose Biden's foreign policy experience helped Obama shore that up last time, so perhaps shoring up a deficiency might help. More than geography.

What we did see in '08 is that a VP pick can lose you the election.

I don't know? Is Red Klotz still around and does he need a coaching job?

Ryan probably did as much good as anyone Romney could have picked. He at least got his base energized again and willing to do the legwork of making calls, knocking on doors, etc. I don't think there was a choice out there that could have flipped a blue state.

The New Jersey Generals of the USFL won more than the Washington Generals.
