They both stammered through half of it before kinda hitting their stride. And that was sly of Romney, sneaking in "death panels" without using the term. Obama should have responded by saying, "I guess you're going to question whether I was actually born in the United States, too."

I can say that Romney perhaps came out a little bit better, but he threw the kitchen sink. Obama did the equivalent of parrying the flurries, conserving his energy. That's why we didn't hear "47 percent" and "outsourcing." I'm sure Obama is going to use the recency effect to pop those out when they can have the hammer effect. Also, Romney didn't have a horrible VP pick as an extra pressure point, unlike McCain in 2008, so he had an edge there.

I have a dream that someday I will live in a world where Democrats -- other than Clinton, of course -- don't come across as such wonkish pussies. I have a dream today.

That's basically how it looked to me, too. I won't say who won on substance but, on personal impressions, I did think Romney looked far more alert, focused and eager to get into it, Obama looked like he was tired and couldn't wait for it to end. A bit disappointing, I expected the prez to be sharper. It's the best Romney's looked to me since his campaign began (although that sure as hell ain't saying much).

I doubt it'll make much difference, if any, come election day, though.

All that gave supporters was false hope.

A debate, even today, is not going to swing an election. (I am actually holding out that hope in real life as I am a candidate for a seat on our local school board and am currently a perceived front runner (2 spots open with no incumbents who have endorsed me.))

Apparently Obama thinks he can't say, "you are lying" because then he will be attacked for being an "angry black man."

I guess I'm just not clear who would decide who to vote for based on one 90-minute debate that didn't even pose any real questions. Are there really voters out there who still do this?

Romney won. That will get him two days of good coverage and then a toddler in Oregon will land a jet on YouTube or something. Welcome to ADD America.

It wouldn't take changing all THAT many minds for Romney to win. It's not like 1996 or 1984. There are a few debates to go, however.
