I had a meeting and I'm about 25 minutes in and I've avoided Facebook and this thread but ... Jim Leher needs to be put down like Old Yeller.

LTL, please tell me you aren't seriously whining about a politican lying. Please.

We all know the truth is just an innocent bystander in this fucked-up process, and has been for a long time.

I think the ginger in the front row of FOX's focus group might get lucky with the kindergarten teacher seated next to him.

I was just thinking the exact same thing. She couldn't have been looking at him more adoringly.

    Ginger spawn are upon us.

There are distortions and half-truths and new claims that haven't been vetted.

There is rarely a known flat-out lie that is repeated so often and so forcefully in such a format.

Saying "they all lie" just works to the advantage of the guy who makes lies the central feature of his campaign. Which I suppose is the angle the Romney camp is playing.

I don't think anyone could have controlled that format. It looks like it was designed to force them to do something other than spout soundbites for 90 minutes. Which...I guess it kind of did, but I devolved into a lot of circle-jerking at each other over the same points over and over and over again.

I thought Romney did "better" than Obama but I don't think either of them came off as terribly likeable. The "ask each other questions" nonsense did them no favors. And they certainly didn't talk policy in anything but incredibly broad terms or terms that are not accurate to anything that will ever happen. Which...I guess is pretty much what I expected.

I think we'd get better debates with a tag team approach. Let Obama and Ryan wrestle over fine details and have Romney v Biden for the cutthroat lines.

Some of you guys need to understand the difference between an interpretation of a particular policy (yours and the other side's spin on yours, and vice versa) ... in effect, the sales pitch ... and lying. One other thing is that you can make statistics and numbers say any damn thing you want.
When Bud says on a commercial that it's the greatest beer in the world, is it true? No, of course not. But are they lying? No ... they're selling.
Politics is selling. We'll see in November who had the best sales pitch.

Which didn't make it different from any debate since Kennedy-Nixon.

Jim Lehrer needs to retire. Moderators need to be in control and be brief.

Also, there needs to be a system where the candidates are buzzed, beeped or blasted to STFU when they're either rambling or off topic or not answering the question or saying something without backing it up with facts.
