    From what I was told after (you know how that goes, plus I'm recalling this more than 15 years after the fact) the call to fire actually came from above. Apparently, an employee had gotten hurt doing something mundane off the clock and when insurance balked (because it was off the clock) it caused holy hell among company lawyers

    As an addendum to my previous post, the job where the boss forced unpaid labor, the one who refused to let me search him, was fired about six months later for - wait for it - stealing
