The Vols were 20-28 against the Top 25 since they won their title, and only won two SEC titles in his 17 seasons there, including none in the last 10.

    It was time to go.

WFW. Clemson could end up on this list as well.

if Clemson finds the right guy they'll be a national force.

What birthright dictates that Tennessee should win more than one SEC title every 8 1/2 years. And why would a national title be considered entitlement? His tenure was perfectly acceptable, tho his offense is a generation behind.

Clemson has that same birthright-oriented disease, Dools. Absolute arrogance. Is it an orange thing?

And strangely enough, orange is my favorite color, the butt-kicking delivered by Texas notwithstanding

... and mine is black, making it fitting that Air Raid took out Texas.

It's not an entitlement. It's a fact that since winning twice in his first seven seasons, he hasn't won one in the last 10, and are headed for back-to-back losing seasons.

The Vols are not competitive right now, and would not be in the future if Fulmer remained at the helm. Florida and Georgia are miles ahead of Tennessee right now, which is a far cry from 10 years ago.

And in the 10 years before that, Florida and Georgia were ahead of Tennessee. UT just had lightning in a bottle for a time.

There were more players than media there...

From what I heard, most media members weren't even in the same room as the actual podium...

Sure, but it was longer than lightning in a bottle, and they were at least competitive against UF and UGA.

Right now, they're not even close, as evidenced by their loss to South Carolina.

The same thing happened in January 2004, when Saban called a presser to say he was saying at LSU (after Jerry Angelo came to call). The room was lined with players, former players, hangers-on and world-class hangers-on, all of whom broke into applause.

People on this thread (and elsewhere) heard it on the video that played on ESPN and other such outlets and ripped the Louisiana media for "cheering for Saban" after his announcement. It was an unfair rip, and another reminder that people often jump to conclusions based on little or no checking of the facts.

There aren't many news conferences nowadays where there aren't cheering sections allowed by the team/school, and that's really one of those B.S. things we tolerate but should complain about more behind the scenes, in my opinion.
