Fulmer out at Tennessee

He's not putting his serious mark at South Carolina. Not that I see anyway.

Maybe the money thing isn't a big deal to him, but tradition is. Tennessee has it, South Carolina doesn't. I see him as a 7-5, 8-4 coach there for as long as he stays. They can't even beat Vandy.

Spurrier may want the job but he's not going to get it for the reason he outlined in that quote.

  3. I'm fairly sure he's definitely not.

    Armchair,

If I was Tennessee's AD, and wanted Spurrier, why should that prevent me from going to get him?

Even if he stays for, what, four years, he can revive a sagging program. Then, you can go get someone else to take over a monster.

My point, and Spurrier's, is that Tennessee's AD doesn't want to do that.

And Tennessee isn't a sagging program.

Hmmmmmmm....I think Spurrier would be a great hire. Tennessee is sagging, the record against Top 25s is proof of that. If, as someone wrote earlier, there is major concern about filling skyboxes, would anyone energize the wealthy fan base as much as he does?

You are right that this program isn't at rock bottom. It's closer to a championship than South Carolina. Even if he only stays five years, imagine the possibilities.

Who would be better? Leach, maybe. Fisher, for sure. But Fisher's not going there, and who knows if Leach will, either.

Seeing Spurrier at Tennessee would be like watching Bob Knight at Purdue.

I'd love to see Bob Knight at Purdue.

I think I'd like seeing Spurrier all dolled up in orange.

Did Bob Knight grow up wanting to play at Purdue, though? Because Spurrier would have been at Tennessee it it hadn't run the single-wing, never-throw offense back in the day.

It would be an incredibly interesting story on many levels.

    But it won't happen.

Tennessee can't risk being turned down by Spurrier.

Even though he owns a ton of property about 30 minutes east of Knoxville, I can see the Gruden argument both ways.

YES: wife wants to move back home, he can go be a God, he won't be hamstrung by salary issues partially brought on by Glazer's overextending himself with the ManU(re) purchase.

NO: pension's too good, would immediately get another NFL job as soon as one opened up

But that would be the ultimate Fuck you to Fulmer... and if Bammers can embrace Satan, then etc....
