The one flaw in "Carrie" the novel is King tried to over-explain events that were just five years in the future when he wrote the book. (Written in 1974 and set in 1979, not long after the movie came out actually.) It was his first novel, so he learned from it.

Nobody fucks with a hippo, not crocodiles, not lions, not anything. I've never seen any footage, but I imagine even an elephant doesn't mess with a hippo.
