It's hard at this point to ignore some of the stupid decisions, actions and consequences the show is writing in at this point.

Euron's heat-seaking scorpion SAMs are among the worst.

I agreed with Tyrion's take on what Dany did with Gendry, that she was buying his loyalty. One way to make sure someone like him doesn't start thinking about his claim to the throne is to keep him happy.

I didn't have much problem with the scorpions. I have a massive problem with the dragons flying that low and not seeing a fleet that big lurking. Hiding behind an island is fine for the cameras at ship level, but missing that many ships from the air? That's nonsense. The dragons were on that trip in the first place to scout and protect the fleet from Euron.

I also have a massive problem with Dany, Tyrion and the others standing so close to the walls. No way Cersei wouldn't have taken the chance to send volleys of scorpion bolts at her hated enemies if they were dumb enough to get that close. I saw no flag of truce, and Cersei wouldn't hesitate to violate one anyway.

I truly am pissed about the writing. Years of layered plots have been tossed like used kleenex this season in a headlong rush to finish.

    Agree with all of this.

Cersei would blow up the Sept of Balor, but wouldn't take a chance to attack when all her main rivals are standing defenseless right outside of the gate?

Agreed. Clearly she doesn't care what anybody thinks of her. She relies most heavily on intimidation to rule. That entire sequence made very little sense.

The absolute only way this scene would have made sense was if Dany had flown and gotten Jon before the meeting, given him Drogon, and then had him waiting above the clouds out of sight for things to play out. They had to knew Missandei was going to die. As soon as that happened, Jon swoops in from above the clouds (of course, they'd have to write in cloud cover) and burns everyone on the platform, or at least takes out some of the Scorpions before retreating. You have Cersei live by having the Mountain cover her or she just gets behind cover.

And the only reason I think Cersei didn't take the shots was because she's playing the reverse of what Dany is. She gave Dany a chance to surrender and not attack King's Landing. Dany turned it down and is now the evil invader trying to take the city. Both are trying to play the common citizens against each other with the idea of ruling down the road.

I completely agree. How they didn't use the dragons to clear the area is beyond me. But the loss of the dragon was fitting. It's emblematic of how Dany's power is dwindling and she's forced to confront the one thing she didn't want to confront: Playing the Game of Thrones. She pledged to smash the wheel, but she's becoming a big part of it. To this point, when someone contradicts her or challenges her—even when she made a bad decision—she's been able to use her power to squash it. No one had the ability to challenge her. Now they do. Secondly, she's having to confront her hubris. She saw the scorpion before and it failed. So of course they couldn't have improved. Wrong. She has an army who can march south. They don't need a chance to recover. Wrong. The old tactics don't work. She is going to need to play the political game.

Prediction for next week: Clegane Bowl in all its awesomeness. The Mountain gets the better of the Hound and has him ready for the death blow. Arya, in a call back to how she left the Hound to die, crosses the Mountain off her list by killing him at the last minute. Possibly we lose Arya in the process. Dany engages with Cersei. She ignores Tyrion's call to not kill the civilians and begins torching the Red Keep. Jaime shows up and gets inside and pleads with Cersei to give it up. For the sake of their baby and the sake of the people. Cersei refuses and has shades of the Mad King. Euron, pissed after finding out he is not the father, tells her to fuck off as Jaime thrusts a knife into Cersei's back. They have a tearful goodbye and the prophecy is fulfilled. We end the episode with the armies of Essos and Westeros marching into the capital. As Dany enters the capital expecting a liberator's welcome, Jon is doted upon by the people. They share a glance as we fade to black.

Not sure what happens, but it for sure feels like we're heading towards, "Jon kills Dany, because she's crazy like the rest of the Targs."

This. I was stunned when Missandei’s drakaras didnt actually lead to burning, as soon as Cersei asked for last words I was positive she’d say it and Drogon would pop up and wreck shit.
