Dammit, I meant to check that!

Can I have a do-over and just name Burlington?

That would have been a good time to remind him of the Pete Rose debacle. Or the Joe & Marilyn debacle. Or the books that were re-writes of the "Boys of Summer" material...

Beat me to it ... sometimes I wonder if his whole life hasn't revolved around being a copy boy at the Herald-Tribune, then getting the Brooklyn beat.

But I wanted to address those wondering what's next for Ganim. If she doesn't win a Pulitzer next time, does that come up in her annual review???

    Not even close.

Indeed, not on a board that for a short time had the "Favorite Fart Stories" thread.

"The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars, but in ourselves."

How many of us, presented identical circumstances, would have done half as well? Not me.
Yet I am beyond proud to be in the same profession as this dogged young woman, and only slightly jealous. She has ennobled the whole business and reminded us of its highest ideals. She has done what a generation of us imagined we might do after Woodward and Bernstein showed us what was possible and why newspapers matter so much.
We are, I think, all of us, in her debt.

She's lucky she's not at a Gannett paper. She'd be getting slammed for not mainstreaming and not meeting Passion Topics goals.

You've been here long enough to know that is not even close to being the case.

BTW, mizzou, she walked past my desk last night, so she hasn't moved on yet. ;)

Maybe she was just looking around for empty boxes?

(Just kidding, she's in a darn good place to dig up stories that seem to motivate her)

I think we ought to go for Ben Hecht, too. I KNOW he loves him some Pennsyltucky. We might even throw in the first tin of Skoal for free.

So should we put the over/under at when she leaves at six months?

All joking aside, as someone who grew up a Penn State fan and who has countless relatives who are alumni, I probably read every single story she wrote when it was breaking and I was nothing short of being in complete awe of the job she did on this story. Nothing short of brilliant.
