    It's one picture!

Do we have live video of the toast? Otherwise, it's silly to judge.

A huge congrats to Harrisburg, the staff there and the reporter for their brilliant work.

Even though it happened in her backyard, it's not like this was just a one-day event. She kicked ass and continued to kick ass...

I worked at a paper where we had an unspeakable tragedy happen in our backyard. We covered the hell out of it and won a Pulitzer for it. I remember when they announced it, when the publisher called it a "great day in the newspaper's history" a lot of us, myself included, were sickened by the "celebration" that followed, without properly acknowledging the tragedy that had taken place.

There was no perspective there. I remember one of the bosses said, "How hard would it have been just to say, 'I'm proud of all of you for all of the fantastic hard work you did during that terrible time."

It's probably sinking in still... "I won WHAT?"

I just hope this prize is an E-ticket for her. I don't know Sara, but she owned this story and Harrisburg proved its worth on this one. Congratulations to the PN and the staff. :)

I think the shock would have been if she hadn't won.

This is just a guess, but I would imagine that she will stick around until the story/trial comes to completion and then entertain leaving. And I can imagine they will do EVERYTHING they can to keep her around until Sandusky trial is over.

Her reaction here probably says, yes, she cares.

I don't know how to post pictures, but there is one at the moment of the announcement. She has her hands to her face. I can't say for sure, but it looks as though she burst into tears.

The idea that any journalist would win a Pulitzer and say, Meh, or that any journalism is made lesser because it won a prize or because its writer might feel something in his or her heart for having won a prize... Well, that's just dumb.

She did great work under difficult circumstances at the heart of one of the biggest stories of the year. Mizzou, your friend got his ass beat, and he's making excuses. If there was a Pulitzer for that, he might have stood a chance.

I told him the same thing. It's amazing what people will say when they just got their ass kicked.

It's hard to admit sometimes, and that's how we get all this precious bullshit about not caring or different circumstances or fate. "It just wasn't in the stars." We all make up pretty little lies about ourselves to get over disappointments. It's human. But it's also transparent as hell.
