    Creosote's doing fine.

For a guy with a bluetooth, anyway.

Congratulations to Ganim and the entire staff. Well deserved.

I remember the East Valley Tribune winning, but maybe that's because it also stood out as a small paper.

    Thanks.

The better bet these days is editorial writing, when you look at the Glens Falls Post-Star and the Rutland Herald.

    It's an individual-based category.

They didn't give one this year, but two of the three nominess were smaller papers, including Burlington, Vt., and one on Florida.

I don't disagree with you. I was mostly trying to sum up what a lot of folks were saying with a famous example.

As long as Ganim stays away from heroin, I'm guessing she'll be fine.

I can't imagine this not being a burden to win this at such a young age.

Let's be honest, she'll never top this. That's not a shot at her on any level, but just reality.

Wow. Yeah, sucks to be her, huh?

Let's get serious. She'll top it by killing on another story and winning another. She loves what she does. She does it well.

A burden? Oh, I wish I had such a burden at that age.

Kudos to Sara and the Patriot-News staff, but particularly Sara. As many others have said, very well deserved.
I realize it probably won't happen, but as a small newspaper man throughout my career, I would love to see Sara stick around at the P-N and continue doing great work. I could certainly understand if she takes the next step and fully expect her to do so. She's definitely earned it.

I don't know if "burden" is the right word, but I do understand DW's point about being sentenced to "a lifetime of having to uncover dirt - and I don't mean that pejoratively at all, but I can see where 30-40 years of waking up every day and pissing new people off might feel long a long road."

Let's be honest. People like to be liked. We in the biz all like Sara right now, but I'm sure a lot of people don't and won't if she continues on the dirt-digging career path. It's not for everyone.

There's a good chance I missed the reactions way back when, but I'm getting the impression from this thread that her reporting was met with great criticism and hooting and hollering from the local yokels. But I always thought her part of it was pretty well respected? I mean, nobody's arguing any unfairness against Sandusky, and her articles have been impeccably sourced. It doesn't seem like she herself, on the cops-and-courts beat, was digging into the JoePa angle.

Am I wrong in thinking that most of the heat was flowing to other reporters on staff or in the area? I just always had the impression before this thread that people respected and even appreciated the role Ganim was playing.

BillyT ... your small, unnamed daily in Florida is the largest paper in the state.
Rough week for the boys. Can't reprint its Titanic sinks cover because somebody wrote "Titantic" in 300-point. Its media blogger called the Pulitzer finalist recognition a backhanded compliment, and now it's being paired with the Burlington, Vt., paper as an example of little engines that could.

After looking at all the newsroom reaction pix, so much for the media admonishing athletes to "act like you've been there before."
