    Not sure I follow.

Someone scoring a touchdown likely has been in the end zone before --- likely dozens of times.

Someone winning a Pulitzer likely hasn't been there before --- and even if the newsroom has, the individual likely hasn't.

And anyway, this wouldn't be the equivalent of scoring a touchdown. This would be the equivalent of winning the Super Bowl. You're allowed to celebrate that.

I didn't mean that it sucks to be her. It's great to be her. She just won the biggest award in journalism at 24. She's likely on the verge of getting a job making six figures where she can pick and choose what stories she does.

But she just covered the biggest sports scandal in God knows how long, if not ever... That could wind up being a burden for her. I hope it's not, but it could be.

I wonder what the guy who won the Pulitzer from the small paper a year or two ago is doing now. I recall he had hinted strongly in the aftermath that he would probably be getting out of journalism eventually.

EDIT: He's at the Wall Street Journal now.

I know a lot of people would like to see Ms. Ganim stay at her current small paper, but small papers just can't pay enough, ultimately to keep reporters around who are in demand to this degree, especially someone this young and probably without big-time roots quite yet.

I'm 99 percent happy for Daniel Gilbert and Sarah Ganim and 1 percent insanely jealous.

Whole lotta folks here who think the appropriate reaction to winning the lottery is to worry about the taxes.

LOL...probably not the best analogy given that a healthy portion of lottery winners end up bankrupt or otherwise broken.

She dug and exposed a protected, sheltered Devil in an area where the broad citizenry wasn't too eager to see any such expose see the light of day -- like, ever.

You see this sequence of events come to fruition, and you believe in God, for a minute.

Get the money, lady, in a place where you are damn sure they'll give you your head and back you every step of the way.

    A wondrous, wondrous achievement.

    Fair point.

I still think "She won a Pulitzer? She now has 60 years to never feel this good again" says a lot about the person saying it.

As enticing as it is to paint us all as miserable pricks - which may be true, but on other grounds - I think the thoughtful posts about this, including my own, have been a little more nuanced than you're giving us credit for.

Ehhh ... a little. But not as much as you'd like to think. They still come out pretty cynical.
