In fairness that’s about half the industry anymore.

I wasn’t sure where to post this, but I just learned that NJ dot com decided not to assign someone to cover the Devils this season. All of its gamers are AP.

I mean, I hate the site … the fact that it’s nothing but click bait (“Did you win Powerball tonight?” “How can you stream the LSU-UCLA game?” “Mike Francesa tweeted something”), that its stories are largely unedited, that it gets things as basic as datelines wrong, but this is infuriating.

I'm sure it's connected, but Chris Ryan, who was the guy they plugged in on about 17 different beats they wouldn't staff with a specific beat writer, just Tweeted today is his last day there:

Gannett New Jersey is also not covering the Devils on the road. At the moment, the Devils have as many in-house reporters covering them home and away as independent media (The Athletic). And who knows how long the latter will last home & away.

Walk into any NY press box and there is a 52% chance you're going to hear someone recalling a recent terrible experience at NJ.com.
