    Jesus fucking christ.

I honestly thought things were starting to look up. I thought we maybe had weathered the storm. October is 3.5 weeks away. Shit.

I really hated seeing this thread again rise to the top of the board.

That isn't a rip on Mizzougrad or an implication that news shouldn't be put on here. Just bummed that this stuff is happening again.

Bottom line is that Gannett is consolidating its people -- regional toning centers here -- desks that will handle copy for several Gannett papers there --- so if you think that they aren't going to continue to trim the work force, you are crazy.

We wouldn't have to consolidate if we weren't spending a shit ton of money on regional fucking toning centers, and centers of excellence for delivery issues that essentially don't work. And don't even get me started on the Digital Production Center. I don't even know what those people do at night. Probably see how they can fuck up headlines and cutlines for the next day's edition.

As many of you know, I've been looking for a job for a year. A nearby Gannett paper has an opening at sports editor, and someone at another Gannett paper in the area notified me. I followed up and learned I wouldn't even be considered because I'm overqualified, the job pays in the low $20,000s, and I have no shot because it's assumed I'd be there only until I found something better.

Sports-editor of a one-person sports department at a daily newspaper. Pay: Low $20s.

    Let that sink in.

Fantastic news. I can't wait to see how all this shakes out. Since they can't fucking cut anybody else on our staff without us having to completely stop covering the city's D-I university or preps or actually stop producing a paper, I'm anxious to see which body part I'll be doing without come October. They already took my balls a long time ago, so it's not that.

    Minimum wage ($7.40 an hour) = $15,392 a year.

I've applied for those jobs too.

You deserve so much better, Johnny. So unfair.

Didn't mean to get off on a tangent. Just giving one slice of the big picture.

But thanks, my fellow Clemente fan. Good to hear from you. I hope you're doing well.

We should be shocked. But given what many of us know about Gannett, it's not the least bit surprising.

I'm overqualified, too. Not even a bite to help out part-time. Then again, I'm not looking to leave my full-time gig with a company which isn't laying anyone off.

Gannett should sell off every property except McLean. It's the only one that matter to this lousy excuse of a company.

Any update on the regional desk in Louisiana? It's been so screwed up, they can't even get people to take jobs in Monroe. Any other locales left to regionalize the desk? That's one sure way to reduce the workforce. Just how many more people can Gannett get rid of. It seems to be bare bones already.
