Drip, you're asking a person who's been out of work for a year, who has sold most of his childhood memories, who lives in a tiny room thanks to the kindness of a friend, who has applied for food stamps and is waiting on word of that, who can no longer afford insurance, who will never be able to retire, whose list of people he owes grows monthly, a job search question in a tone that has a casualness that suggests you are thinking of him the way you'd think of any person considering a low-paying job. Do you know how much like gold a steady paycheck and benefits sound to me after a year without them? Do you ever think before you post?

I'm done. I didn't want to derail the Gannett thread, as I said earlier. Just wanted to share what little I knew about one paper in the chain. Good luck, G men and women.

Johnny I don't think you read my post so I will go very slowly for you. I asked how long would you stay at the job for a reason. Many employers look at your credentials and right or wrong, say you won't stay. I asked out of curiosity, not to pick a verbal war with you.
I don't know about your personal situation. It's heartbreaking but I have several friends in the same boat. And they don't come off being smart assed when asked a very simple question the way you did.
If you present yourself the way you presented yourself to my question, then perhaps you may be out longer than you want to be because of your attitude.
I'm sorry for your problems and I pray that everything works out. But again, not everyone knows your particular situation.

Is it a thread for you to patronize an unemployed person, Drip?

He's been looking without success for a year.

Suffice it to say he likely would be there awhile --- or at least as damn long as anyone else they would hire --- because other opportunities are just too few and far between. At my place the young hires were almost always the ones who keep looking for something even better. They haven't paid their dues and think they are entitled to any plum job out there.

I can't speak for JD or anyone else, but I'm pretty loyal to the places who employ me. That dynamic would be much stronger if/when I have to look for work in this era. Throw me a life raft, and I won't forget it.

    Armchild, you leave me speechless.
    Ace, I didn't patronize JD.
BTE, I see the youngsters who haven't paid their job thinking their entitled. I see old timers who think that they're overdue. It kind of works both ways.
It's a tough question to answer because if you take the job for say 25K and within three months, a job opened up that you had applied for while out is offered at 50k, it's pretty hard not to take the gig making more money.

And drip ruins yet another thread.

Way to be a dick to someone who's been thru what JD has over the last year. Asshole.

You are such a fucking asshole. I mean, a douchebag to the highest fucking degree. That's a personal attack. Quote it. Whine to the moderators about it. But you really just need to get fucked.
