One week and counting for 3,000 Gannett employees...

Some very good people are going to see their careers end just in time for Christmas.

    Gotta love Gannett.

No corporate buyouts even? To be expected from Gannett. Does anybody who ever worked at a Gannett newspaper really have anything good to say about that company except that your check never bounced?

Yes. It wasn't bought by Sam Zell.

I've worked for four major chains and I don't have too much good to say about any of them... ;D

I heard some major corporate folks called it quits this weeks. Someone high up on the circulation food chain and someone else. Someone probably has more information on this than I do.

And damn, that's terrible about the USA Today staff those folks are the best of the best, I always wanted to be able to work for a paper like that. I guess it isn't so glamorous after all.

It's not going to be anywhere near 3,000, somewhere closer to around 2,995. [/gannettspindoctor]

I just posted this on the other thread. It would be really interesting to see where the cuts are all coming from. I wonder if they are all going to be based on circulation, or how the paper's themselves are doing. Or if they are targeting high salaries.

Maybe we could get a running count going somehow? Obviously this is 20 of a projected 3,000 or so. But are these the first cuts so far?
