Courier-Post in Camden and Wilmington News-Journal has been gutted

Kevin Roberts, one of the best columnists in a very tough market
Sean McCann, who does a great job on the Eagles beat
Mike Radano, terrific Phillies beat guy
Kevin Noonan, long-time Eagles beat guy and now a columnist

    this is sickening

they're my friends and total professionals

    i wish them well

How can a sports section lose their pro football reporter, pro baseball reporter and sports columnist.

Not local enough. Only the prep writers are safe.

That's odd then, because the three Westchester guys were preps writers. And Heyman did a ton of locals in his GA role. While the pro beats and a pro columnist were spared. Looking hard for the logic...

sad to say, they probably cost too much.

So then are they going to have to replace them? Then who goes?

    Notice the trend here.

The three preps writers were hired less than a year ago. It doesn't get much cheaper than that.

The people who are the safest are those who are over 60 and could legitimately claim age discrimination and those who are too young and cheap for them to be on Gannett's radar.

Should be a good newsroom mix once the cuts are done.

Sounds like Gannett is being run by Dom Capers.

I'm getting all kinds of great stories today.

At one paper where the cuts are coming down tomorrow, the SE has told every member of the staff they are safe.

Most don't believe him, but nothing like lying to everyone during their final days.

Gannett isn't stupid. I'm sure they're mixing in some younger employees to keep any possible lawsuit. But I would be very surprised if the average age of those laid off is lower than 45.
