Agreed. Gannett wants to have its cake and eat it, too. The company should eat something else ...

Well, it gives you more time to hunt for the life boat or push some women and children out of the way, anyway.

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if they'll tell you when you HAVE to take the week off?

    Q. Does this mean the company is in really bad shape?
    A. Not at all. This means we are taking action to avoid the plight of some other companies and industries. Gannett is a solid company and we want to stay that way. Instituting furloughs at this time is a sound financial move by a sound company that is facing severe economic conditions.

    WTF?

HOW IS THE COMPANY NOT IN BAD SHAPE?

I think there might be some leeway here.

So the company can keep making money while the workers can't. I think Gannett should take a week off.

He said IF! Are you DEEF? (Sorry, a little Animal House humor to break the monotony.)

They said "really bad shape". In other words, it's like having $10 left in the cash register instead of a dollar. Corporate spin, you know.

I liked the line about "certain essential employees" not having to take the furlough. I wonder if that's a euphemism for "management"

I'm guessing they won't let you do it during a holiday week because holidays have to be paid out.

I'd love for someone to go in and say, "I want the next seven Saturdays off..."
