CC, he clarified his point. I questioned him initially and he answered very well. Point squelched.

I've been looking under every rock in my corner of the world ... even in places where rocks don't exist. No dice. And I know I'm not alone.

Bulls knows that, so do you, CC, and much of the board is aware of this, too.

Nope. And the way to go about it is to not go about it. A boss should never go there and say it.

That said, nothing he said is inaccurate ... and it's true for any business right now.

I think we all know this shit is happening everywhere. We ALL know this.
But I have to agree with Bubbler, which was the point of my post.
Dont' tell me how lucky I am just to be working. I earned my job. And if I didn't do it well, I wouldn't still have my job.
Go shovel that shit elsewhere cause I don't need it.

    I earned my house.

But if a tornado comes by that destroys half the houses in my neighborhood, then, well, yeah, I'm lucky to have a house.

And if 3 rounds of job cuts take away half the co-workers at my newspaper, then, well, yeah, I'm lucky to have a job.

Do NOT delude yourself into thinking, "I survived because I deserved to survive." A lot of workers better and more deserving than you (or me) were not so lucky. Yes, I said lucky.

It shouldn't even need to be said, because all the employee has to do is ask himself this question:

"If I was applying for the job I have today, would I get it?"

The answer, for about 99.995% of working journalists, is "no."

So yes, you're lucky to have it, because if you didn't have it, you wouldn't be able to get it.

you're right. employers should continue to shit on their employees just because they can right now.
    I should have known better.

At ALL times anyone with a job is "lucky" to have a job. i was lucky to have a job five years ago.
But now that things are tough, employers rub it in your face almost as a threat just cause the economy is shit. And that's fucked up.
I'm done here. with so many people at Gannett preparing to be unlucky, i'll end my rant.
    good luck out there everyone.

If we were applying for the jobs we have today, we would deserve them. :-\

If people were applying for the jobs they have/and do today would they actually apply? I don't know many people who have seen the job they sought and obtained not get turned into an ugly, barely recognizable version of what attracted them to the position in the first place. Hours and days changed, the thing that actually was the best part of the gig (duties, pay, time to do the kind of work you've always wanted to do) reduced or eliminated.
