This has come out before an e-mail from Gannett to its employees.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Kinda sucks that we're in the communication business, but we fail miserably at it.

Having worked at Gannett in the 1990s, the same thing was said then about it.

Kind of a non sequitur, and sorry to annoy those effected, but WSJ has broken a lot of biggish stuff lately. Just noticing.

    Carry on.

Maybe they realize that while other newspapers have ceased to operate as NEWSpapers, they'll corner the market.

I still say the solution to this "newspaper crisis" is to go back to doing what newspapers do best — report. This BS of doing stories three and four days ahead of time so that you know what your centerpiece is going to be on July 8 goes against the whole concept of newspapers. /minirant over

Old co-worker of mine posted on his FB account that the Indianapolis guild overwhelmingly told the mothership to shove its proposal up its ass sideways. Less than 10 percent of the membership voted for it.

Apparently included 12 percent pay cut, among other things.

    Our EE has no comment.

Neither does ours. In fact, when asked if they were running the AP story, the response was "Nope, Business section is already done."

    So to speak.

Then put it in the A Section. I doubt that's done.

A section is nowhere near done, but they're not going to put that in a section people will read it. When Gannett did the 3,000 layoff in November, they buried it in the business section briefs.

I remember raising a stink in the budget meeting because a few months prior they ran the big 1A story on Starbucks closing thousands of stores. The response I got in the meeting was that nobody cares about newspaper people losing their jobs.

Usually when it becomes official, we'll run a story on 1A about it. The story today went on 2A.
