I would not call anyone of those three much better than the other, but I would have Eli third.

I thought Rivers would be the best of the three by far. Statistically, he probably has been, but I'm guessing he'd trade his career for Roethlisberger's at this point...

Minus the raping of course... :D

Nobody was trading for Garrard and his bloated $8 million salary. If someone was interested in trading for him, the team would have claimed him off waivers with the salary.

As for cutting him on Tuesday instead of Saturday, the only issue I have is parading him at the Kickoff Luncheon. There are a ton of players who got cut after Saturday and nobody is crying them a river.

    None were starting QBs.

Garrard looks pretty good when all you've got is Alex Smith throwing behind the receiver yet again. Dumping it off to protect the % looks good from here when your 1st team QB goes 2/7 for 10 yds in a preseason game against a vanilla D. Think about that, 1.3 yds per attempt.

I would rather the Niners go 4-12 with Alex Smith and have a realistic shot at Andrew Luck, than have them go 6-10 with David Garrard.

I predict Luck will be a Niner one way or another.

The Niners aren't even close to being that bad. As Michael Gee pointed out a few pages back, playing in that division is going to mean two or three wins for them and the Seahawks, which by itself is almost enough to knock them out of contention for the top pick. Their defense is pretty good, as is their running game. And don't forget that last year they had a couple of complete dolts running the offense.

SI has them No. 30 in the power rankings. I don't think the Niners are nearly as bad as Carolina or Cincy, but them going with Alex Smith as the starter this season certainly has me thinking that they're not necessarily writing off this season, but that winning might now might not be the No. 1 priority.

Well he could stomp his feet and cry like another Stanford QB to get his way.

SI has them 30th? I did not know that ... I would say SI is quite a bit wrong on that. The Panthers, Bengals, Bills, Raiders, Seahawks, and now Jaguars look worse to me, and there are a few toss-ups like the Broncos and Colts if there's no Peyton. Plus I think Harbaugh is going to adapt to the pro game better than people expect.

There will be a lot of crappy teams in the NFL this season, but the Raiders will not be one of them.

They're going to suck. Another season of double-digit losses.
