Mark got it right. It isn't a liberal thing at all. It is what I was taught to do as part of my faith.

The way I heard it explained, there's nothing inherently wrong with writing "god," but there is something wrong with disposing of the written name of God. Hence, if one wanted to write "God" in a journal or something, that was fine, but for public writing, the abbreviation is preferred.

There are also some who believe writing out god in English is fine and it's just Hebrew that's subject to the disposal rules.

After all of which... I am not Jewish and could well be completely wrong.

That is actually a pretty good explanation of it.

Can't say I appreciate having the way I practice my faith put up for ridicule, but given the sources, I'm not surprised, either. To be fair, I get that it looks funny. There are things I've seen Christians do in practicing their faith that look funny to me, too. Not really something I'd poke fun at on here, though.

I could pull out about 10 posts aimed at me that show that you do, Out.
But I'm too tired to be interested in doing so at this point.

No, you really can't. Telling you that your Bible is not applicable in a legal discussion does not count.

The bigotry of bearing witness to bigotry. Brilliant!
