So, by placing a franchise in Winnipeg that will receive the additional corporate financial support via the ownership group a team there will require, the runway has been cleared for a handpicked ownershipship group to land in the Promised Land of Ontario.

    Do I have this right?

The TV interview with the owner was unreal.

TV guy: "What do you have to say to all the fans out there?"

Owner: "If you know of someone who's interested in buying a team ..."

Talk about your trainwrecks. I'm sure everyone in Atlanta just has a friend with hundreds of millions of dollars stashed away in their mattress.

How about the owner try ... "I'm sorry to put everyone through this, and I hope they continue to support us while we're going through this difficult time."

A little more information about the Queen:

The portrait was commissioned by Manitoba lieutenant-governor Bud Jobin in 1979 after complaints were received about another, apparently unflattering, painting of the Queen that used to hang in the south end of the arena. The new portrait was painted by the same artist as the old one, Gilbert Burch. He was paid $1,600 for his services.

    The Queen in her prime:

“She looks gorgeous in it. It was when she was at the top of her game,” Wilson said of Queen Elizabeth II. “It’s a lovely piece.”

Canucks, I give you the contact information. Make it happen:

Anyone interested in the painting is welcome to call Wilson at 416-977-7704.

That could be the dumbest thing that Levenson has said this month. Maybe. What a frickin' tool.

This will serve as the poster child for why 9 man ownership groups won't work.

And with the bumbling the Spirit Group did over the entire course of the run here, you wonder in amazement how any of these guys made any money in the first place to buy the team.

No way Waddell continues on in a new location. The only reason he's still here and was GM for so long is the ownership group was ignorant about hockey.

Christ. 11 years of hockey down the drain. 1 playoff appearance. 0 playoff wins (swept by the Rangers. Atlanta could support a team if it showed any hint of promise,

I would imagine the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL is eagerly anticipating the move, where they stand to pick up a boatload of new attendees next year.

I heard today that Lil Jon wants to buy the Thrashers. Get low.

EDIT: Jerry Bruckheimer is part of the prospective ownership group, too.

    From wicked's link:

ATLANTA (April 11, 2006) -- Was it the car, the man sitting in it, or the big silver cup on the seat beside him that was drawing all of the attention? When the car is a Lamborghini, the man is Atlanta hip-hop artist and producer Lil' Jon and the cup is the Stanley Cup, it's tough to say.

But when Lil' Jon is the most excited person in the crowd, you know there's something special happening in Atlanta.

"I can't believe the Stanley Cup is sitting in my car," he laughed with a huge grin on his face.

    More:

Between pictures and video promos, the hip hop superstar took some time to explain how he got hooked on hockey. "I grew up back in the days of the Omni, back when we had the Atlanta Flames," he explained. "We used to go to the games at the Omni. We even went ice skating back in the day. That's how I got into hockey in the A-T-L."

Considering there was a 19-year gap between the departure of the Flames and the arrival of the Thrashers, Lil' Jon can be forgiven for losing touch with NHL hockey for a while, but he's a fan again. What brought him back to the game? His son. "I heard about the Thrashers coming to Atlanta, but I hadn't been to a game yet until my son started playing hockey. I brought him to a Thrashers game to see what a real hockey game was like."

Is buying the Thrashers some sort of Celebrity Apprentice challenge for Lil Jon? I hope this means a Gary Busey-Meat Loaf blood war when they go to Buckhead to sell season tickets.

Tom Glavine has also expressed interest in buying a piece of the team.
