Going to a concert alone

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Bucknutty, Aug 5, 2007.

  1. Tits = good.

I can't do anything by myself. Well, none of the stuff discussed here so far.

Bucknutty, you know me pretty well and if I never told you this before, I should have: maybe it's because I'm old, but going solo to concerts is the only way to fly because you can wait 5 minutes before the show and get a single on the street for cheap. I haven't paid those bogus TM fees for years, even when I go to shows with my wife. Clapton for $15. McCartney for $20. Wolfmother for $10.

Oh, and next time you see an indoor show alone at our city's indoor-outdoor venue, make sure you weasel your way to the bench on the left side of the floor next to the beer tub. Standing on it is the best view, short of first few rows.

I rarely go anywhere alone. I'm too much of a talker and would go insane without someone to talk to. I'd end up talking to anyone and everyone around me, as if I've always known them. I'm not sure it that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Heading to LA for a football road trip in 1991, I saw that David Benoit was playing the Greek Theater. Bought two tickets, figuring I could get one of the guys to go with me. Not one of the guys I traveled with would go. So I went alone.
And it was among the best concerts I've seen.
Certainly the most beautiful setting for any concert I've attended. The Greek is -- or at least was, 16 years ago -- a fabulously beautiful place in a beautiful setting. I only wished my wife had made the trip so she could enjoy the show.

In addition to Hot Hot Heat, I've seen Oasis and the Stills solo. Because I went solo to Oasis, I managed to buy a fifth-row ticket -- take that, friends who wouldn't go with me!

Went to one show by myself, the New Pornographers, and hated it. Concerts are supposed to be fun things to go to with friends, but couldn't find anyone to go to this one. I did feel like weird guy by himself bobbing his head.

    Just not my thing.

I saw Hot Hot Heat here for JunoFest in 2006. They are a great "live" band.

As for going alone, if its for a concert I am thinking that you might fit in without people noticing that you came alone.
Especially if you are in front of the stage headbanging with people taking pictures of the shows. Well, that's what it looks like at concerts I have been to in Halifax.

I might as well been alone during the Vans Warped Tour stop in Atlanta last month. Took my daughter and her two friends, but as soon as we got in the gate we parted company. They did their thing and I did mine. I didn't see them again until it was time to leave. I'll probably do the same this weekend when I go with my son and his friends to the Family Values stop in ATL.

I've been to three Warped Tours, but never gone alone. I went in a big group once, and I ended up seeing different bands with assortments of each of my seven friends. But I always had a partner at every stage. My best friend and I used to go before we moved to different parts of the country. I won't go to an eight-hour festival like the Warped Tour alone. I'd get tired a lot faster, especially in the heat.
