I just hope you are not as depressed as the author of this great song.

There's a hole in the ceiling down through which I fell. There's a girl in the basement coming out of her shell. There are people who will say that they knew me so well.

Then my favorite part: "I may not go to heaven but I hope you go to hell...."

I was hoping someone would mention Counting Crows because I think that, unlike say a band like Train, they actually put some thought into their lyrics.

Another good one from that same album: "If dreams are like movies, then memories are films about ghosts."

YES. The Silver Jews RULE. That's one of my all-time favorite first lines to an album.

I also love the last song on there, "The Wild Kindness," which has this great verse:

I died my hair in a motel void
met the coroner at Dreamgate Frontier
He took my hand, said I'll help you, boy
If you really want to disappear

Well, I found a bunch of letters
They were written for the fellow
    Who broke your momma's heart
And the envelope folds smelled of her ancient perfume

    I'll bet she didn't know
How to respond before the blankets of snow
    Caught him out wandering alone
    With no place to go

There were stars in the sky
There were houses on the hill
    There were bottles and pills
That were easy to buy to keep her warm
    From the oncoming storm

Well, I found them in the northwest corner of the attic
In a box labeled "Tinsel and Lights"
Didn't know what I was looking for
Maybe just a blanket or artifacts

    Eisenhower sent him to war
He kept her picture in his pocket that was closest to his heart
    And when he hit shore
It must have been a target
    For the gun-men

There were stars in the sky
There were bunkers on the hill
And there were caskets to fill where he would lie
Shrouded in the red, white & blue with the stripes

There were stars in the sky
There were houses on the hill
    There were bottles and pills
That were easy to buy to keep her warm
    From the oncoming storm

One of my favorite opening passages:

Ain't found a way to kill me yet
    Eyes burn with stinging sweat
Seems every path leads me to nowhere

Racism can't be defined. It's all around us, enveloping us like a plague until it becomes us. Until we're all dead. Dead racists.

Bullshit. You accused people here of racism. Either show why you believe that or grab yourself a gallon jug of STFU.

A gallon jug of snot just came out of my nose from laughing at that.

Looking at the room, I can tell that you
are the most beautiful girl in the...room (in the whole wide room).
And when you're on the street, depending on the street,
I bet you are definitely in the top three
good lookin' girls on the street (depending on the street).
And when I saw you at my mate's place,
I thought...what is she doing at my mate's place?
How did Dave get a hottie like that to a party like this?
Good one, Dave (you're a legend, Dave).

I asked Dave if he's going to make a move on you.
He's not sure. I said "Dave, do you mind if I do?"
He says he doesn't mind, but I can tell he kind of minds.
But I'm going to do it anyway.

I see you standing all alone by the stereo.
I dim the lights down to very low, here we go…
You're so beautiful - you could be a waitress.
You're so beautiful - you could be an air hostess in the ‘60s.
You're so beautiful - you could be a part-time model.
And then I seal the deal, I do my moves.
    I do my dance moves.

Let’s travel through, just me and you
and seven other dudes around you on the dance floor.
I draw you near, let’s get out of here.
Let’s get in a cab, I'll buy you a kabob.
    I can't believe I'm sharing a kabob
with the most beautiful girl I have ever seen with a kabob.
    Why don't we leave?
    Let’s go to my house.
We can feel each other up on the couch.
Oh no, I don't mind taking it slow.

Cause you're so beautiful - like a tree, or a high class prostitute.
You're so beautiful - you could be a part-time model.
But you'd probably still have to keep your normal job.
    A part-time model.
Spend part of your time modeling.
And part of your time next to me.
And the rest of your time doing your normal job.
My place is usually tidier than this.

It's always awesome when someone completely misses sarcasm.
