That song always reminds me of a news anchor I worked with many years ago. Love the video, too, with Graham taking a blowtorch to an ice sculpture.

And it was Graham who gave us this classic:

It must have felt strange to find me inside you
    I hadn't intended to stay.

This thread is right in my wheelhouse. I have a journal just for lyrics that hit home for me. It starts with this Eminem lyric:

And when your run is over just admit when it's at its end. -- 'Till I Collapse

    Others that I love:

"Don't remove my Polos on the first episode" The Fugees, Fu-Gee-La
"And I wake up and I ask myself what state I'm in
And I say well I'm lucky, cause I am like East Berlin
I had this wall and what I knew of the free world
Was that I could see their fireworks
And I could hear their radio
And I thought that if we met, I would only start confessing
And they'd know that I was scared
They'd would know that I was guessing
But the wall came down and there they stood before me
With their stumbling and their mumbling
And their calling out just like me" Dar Williams, What Do You Hear in These Sounds

    My favorite Dylan:

    Oh, the ragman draws circles
    Up and down the block
I'd ask him what the matter was
But I know that he don't talk
And the ladies treat me kindly
    And furnish me with tape
    But deep inside my heart
    I know I can't escape
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
    With the Memphis blues again.

Well Shakespeare he's in the alley
With his pointed shoes and his bells
    Speaking to some French girl
Who says she knows me well
And I would send a message
To find out if she's talked
But the post office has been stolen
    And the mailbox is locked
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
    With the Memphis blues again.

    Mona tried to tell me
To stay away from the train line
She said that all the railroad men
Just drink up your blood like wine
And I said "Oh I didn't know that
But then again there's only one I've met
And he just smoked my eyelids
    And punched my cigarette"
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
    With the Memphis blues again.
    Grandpa died last week
And now he's buried in the rocks
    But everybody still talks about
    How badly they were shocked
But me, I expected it to happen
    I knew he'd lost control
When he built a fire on Main Street
And shot it full of holes
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
    With the Memphis blues again.

Now the senator came down here
    Showing ev'ryone his gun
    Handing out free tickets
To the wedding of his son
And me, I nearly get bursted
And wouldn't it be my luck
To get caught without a ticket
And be discovered beneath a truck
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
    With the Memphis blues again.

Now the preacher looked so baffled
When I asked him why he dressed
    With twenty pounds of headlines
    Stapled to his chest
But he cursed me when I proved it to him
Then I whispered, "Not even you can hide
You see, you're just like me
    I hope you're satisfied"
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
    With the Memphis blues again.
Now the rainman gave me two cures
Then he said, "Jump right in"
    The one was Texas medicine
The other was just railroad gin
And like a fool I mixed them
And it strangled up my mind
And now, people just get uglier
And I have no sense of time
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
    With the Memphis blues again.

When Ruthie says come see her
    In her honky-tonk lagoon
Where I can watch her waltz for free
    'Neath her Panamanian moon
And I say, "Aw come on now
You know you know about my debutante"
And she says, "Your debutante just knows what you need
But I know what you want"
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
    With the Memphis blues again.

Now the bricks lay on Grand Street
    Where the neon madmen climb
They all fall there so perfectly
It all seems so well timed
And here I sit so patiently
Waiting to find out what price
You have to pay to get out of
Going through all these things twice
Oh, Mama, is this really the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
    With the Memphis blues again.

Oh God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son"
Abe says, "Man, you must be puttin' me on"
God say, "No." Abe say, "What ?"
God say, "You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin' you better run"
Well Abe says, "Where do you want this killin' done ?"
God says. "Out on Highway 61".

In 1984 I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.
Slowly screwing my way across Europe, they had to make a correction.
Broken and smokin' where the infrared deer plunge in the digital snake.
I tell you, they make it so you can't shake hands when they make your hands shake.

I know you like to line dance, everything so democratic and cool,
But baby there's no guidance when random rules.

I know that a lot of what I say has been lifted off of men's room walls.
Maybe I've crossed the wrong rivers and walked down all the wrong halls.
But nothing can change the fact that we used to share a bed
and that's why it scared me so when you turned to me and said:

    "Yeah, you look like someone
Yeah you look like someone who up and left me low.
Boy, you look like somene I used to know."

I asked the painter why the roads are colored black.
He said, "Steve, it's because people leave
and no highway will bring them back."
So if you don't want me I promise not to linger,
But before I go I've gotta ask you, dear, about the tan line on your ring finger.

No one should have two lives,
now you know my middle names are wrong and right.
Honey we've got two lives to give tonight.

It's by REM, so I'll err on the side of putting it on this thread instead of the other. Your mileage may vary.

The time to rise has been engaged
    You're better best to rearrange
I'm talking here to me alone
I listen to the finest worksong
    Your finest hour
    Your finest hour

    Another chance has been engaged
    To throw Thoreau and rearrange
    You are following this time
I beg you not beg to rhyme (blow your horn)
Your finest hour (blow your horn)
    Your finest hour

Take your instinct by the reins
    Your better best to rearrange
What we want and what we need
Has been confused, been confused (blow your horn)
Your finest hour (blow your song)
    Your finest hour

Take your instinct by the reins
    Better best to rearrange
What we want and what we need
Has been confused, been confused (blow your horn)
Your finest hour (blow your song)
Your finest hour (blow your horn)
Your finest hour (blow your song)
    Your finest hour

    You love her,
    But she loves him.
    And he loves somebody else,
    You just can't win.

    And so it goes,
    Till the day you die.
    This thing they call love,
    It's gonna make you cry.

    I've had the blues,
    The reds and the pinks.
One thing for sure is ...
    Love stinks.

Counting Crows (St. Robinson in his Cadillac Dream): "In a house where regret is a carousel ride
We are spinning and spinning and spinning"

The Who (Behind Blue Eyes): But my dreams, they aren't as empty as my conscience seems to be."

    Pearl Jam (Indifference):

I will light the match this mornin'
    So I won't be alone
    Watch as she lies silent
For soon night will be gone

Oh, I will stand arms outstretched
    Pretend I'm free to roam
Oh, I will make my way
Through one more day in hell

How much difference does it make?
How much difference does it make?

    I will hold the candle
'Til it burns up my arm
    Oh, I'll keep takin' punches
    Until their will grows tired
    [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/p/pearl+jam/indifference_20106418.html ]
Oh, I will stare the sun down
    Until my eyes go blind
    Hey, I won't change direction
And I won't change my mind

How much difference does it make?
Mmm, how much difference does it make?
    How much...

    I'll swallow poison
    Until I grow immune
I will scream my lungs out
    'Til it fills this room

    How much difference?
    How much difference?

How much difference does it make?
How much difference does it make?
