I think it's telling that the comments section has been cordoned off on that story.

Well, he didn't say he's a terrorist and he's not an American, but otherwise ... you mean like Obama's brother?

No, the pick might've come off better if Palin had more experience than just 20 months as governor of Alaska and some time as a small town mayor. It also would've helped if the gimmicky political motives behind the pick hadn't been so absurdly transparent. Romney instead of McCain wouldn't have changed any of that.

This pick comes off a lot better in 2016. Maybe 2012, but even that may be a stretch.

The GOP has taken someone considered to be a rising star and set her up for humiliation. I think this is just a really bad idea. I could see Palin being a very good candidate once she has some time in the Senate, which seemed like a smart next step. But not now, after 20 months governing a state with the population of Memphis, Tennessee.

    Rising star? How?
Who even heard of her before yesterday?
Rising star after a year in a state office?
    Seriously?

I remember hearing about her after she beat Gov. Murkowski in the GOP primary in 06. That's about it.

I'd heard of her too and was impressed with her path, but the GOP had reservations as well. Fred Barnes, who wrote a glowing profile of her last year, didn't even have her on her board because he didn't think she'd make a plausible president. I know this was a last minute decision, but you'd think the GOP would have wanted someone like Palin out there campaigning for McCain before this week, maybe even schedule her to speak at the convention this week (she wasn't before Friday). The party needs more Sarah Palins.

Well, hell, if a bunch of bloggers have brought this up, it's gotta be true. ::)

I read this bullshit today on Daily Kos (linked from NewsBusters.org), and I wondered how long it would take to get it here. I figured spinning would bring it up.

It's a disgusting rumor. And it's disgusting that some people here who I've had a lot of respect for are bringing it up.

Seriously, do you think someone who had a secret like that is going to allow herself to be chosen as a VP candidate?

  9. Um, yes?
Let's just start with John Edwards running for president as recently as six months ago.

I think Palin-Jindal is what you're looking for here. I would suspect that's the 2012 Republican ticket, running against HRC and a bag of cement.

Apparently governing Memphis is quite complex, as no one who's been elected to do it in my memory has been worth a damn.

You're right, and I didn't think about it. It's almost 1:30 in the morning, and I probably should be asleep.

However, I'm still calling bullshit on this rumor.
