This is just a weird pick.

Here's the question to ask: Why did McCain feel he had to make this pick?

If it's to solidify the base, OK, I get it. Creationism? Super.

But there's no way he makes this pick if his people think he has a straight up chance to win. It's a hail mary pass as Chuck Schumer put it.

That's pretty typical in Alaska. Minor parties have more say-so there than in a lot of other states.

That's one reason Alaska had a Dem governor (Knowles) for eight years.

So it's official - John McCain has thrown a Hail Mary and tapped Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. The trad med types are ga-ga about what a game-changing choice Palin is. And they're right. It is a game-changer. The Palin pick takes a race already leaning toward Obama and pushes it further into his corner.

Why? Because Sarah Palin is the most unqualified VP nominee in modern history, with the possible exception of Admiral Stockdale.

She's worse than Quayle.

After his selection in 1988, Dan Quayle was rightly lambasted as a dim, inexperienced lightweight with no real pertinent experience who was named by George H. W. Bush as a gimmick - a case of an old, out-of touch candidate trying to appear relevant by teaming up with a much younger pol. Now, Palin's not Quayle - by all accounts, she's quite bright. But she's fantastically inexperienced, far more so than Quayle was when he was tapped. And she possesses an attribute far worse than Quayle's stupidity - she's a big corrupt wheel in Alaska's big corrupt Republican Party, arguably the most corrupt political apparatus in the United States.

Here's another article from the Tribune about Palin from a month or so ago. It dismissed rumors about her being the pick because she has such an ethics problem because of the former brother-in-law.

Like I said, she has more executive experience than McCain, Obama and Biden combined. At least someone on one of the tickets has it.

No joke. And it's not even close. Alaska has the smallest population with the smallest simplest state government. Obama has been a U.S. Senator representing a state of over 12 million in Washington for nearly 4 years, Palin has only been Governor of a state with only around 600 thousand for less than 2 years.

Not to mention that Obama's early experience in Chicago politics and the Illinois Senate was immeasurably more fierce, competitive and complex than Palin's early experience as mayor of a tiny Alaskan town of 5000.

Palin's resume truly is unbelievable scant to be a VP choice. She might be an impressive person, but there's just nothing in her background to suggest she's prepared to take on Washington politics, a world in conflict, and the international media.

Of course that's the same thing I was thinking about Shrub's resume 8 years ago and look how well that turned out.
