Because McCain thinks they're stupid?

Although not an SportsJournalists.com member, my wife, who is pretty liberal and a mother of three, is almost offended that Palin would go on a campaign over the next two-plus months instead of being around more for her 4-month-old, special-needs child. A mom of a child that young can't do that, she said. Family first, my wife said, which I replied, Funny, she gave her speech in front of McCain's sign that says Country First.

Maybe you don't know enough politics to realize this, or maybe you're really that obtuse, but McCain's pick of Palin is the insult to women. He and the GOP are banking on Hilary supporters being so punch-drunk for a gal that they'll switch their votes.

I know this much: If Bill Clinton was ripping Obama on the side before, he won't be now. Oh goodness no. The Clinton fangs will come out now.

It's going to be a street war.

Which, again, is precisely what the GOP wants to do - split the country in two, and win the 10% up for grabs. Any intelligent person would be insulted by it.

From a friend of mine in the political world, take it for what it's worth:

Up until Tuesday, the pick was Pawlenty. Then after Hillary's speech, for some reason they panicked, and decided they needed a woman. (Which is idiotic. What did they think Hillary was going to say?)

Also .... Palin was NOT vetted. They did the minimum - public records searches, etc. - but no one went up to Alaska and sniffed around.

So enterprising political reporters, here's your chance.

Sorry, three bags, but that just sounds a bit too familiar to the chorus we heard 8 years ago, and the whole "guy you'd like to have beer with" rationale. Of course, now the republicans may have altered that formula a bit with a bona fide ILF candidate.

The idea of our vice president being someone who just a couple years ago was mayor of tiny Alaskan town seems so bizarre, almost like the script for some Hollywood comedy. I agree it'd be nice have someone not unduly tied to Washington special interests and corruption, but I'd also like someone with at least some past familiarity with things like foreign policy and how Washington politics work.

She'll probably steer folks away from his cigarette smoking, late-night trips to the strip joint, beer drinking and pawn-shop addiction.

You know. No one would want to be associated with someone so pitiful.

This is about the same story I heard.

At first, I couldn't believe it was Pawlenty.

And why do you suppose the WSJ just happened to have a profile in the works, with photos?

Because they knew there was a real chance Palin was the one.

This has been in the works a long time, folks.

That kind of decision making bodes well for a McCain administration.
