The sound you hear - all the energy generated last night at the convention now evaporating.

Timing of announcement is perfect. For the entire weekend Mcain/ Palin will control the front page.

Pretty close. Plus he's rich and white and obviously gets regular medical checkups. All of that works in his favor, too.

And McCain avoided even the natural-cause deaths that take people too young (see Russert, Tim).

It wasn't going to come during Dems' convention. Had to come before Sunday.

The "timing" only had a window of about 24-36 hours.

Complete bullshit. But keep talking about things you don't know anything about.

  5. Absolutely fucking embarrassing.

    Amen.
This pick was pandering to females, pro-lifers, and NRA folks and it will fail. Quickly.

Like we didn't know this was coming two weeks ago. This isn't a surprise. Whether it wins a general election ...

Of course, more than 38 million people watched Obama last night. That's more than the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing, the American Idol finale or the Academy Awards. So yeah, despite today and this weekend, I would say Obama probably did what he wanted to do and got his message across.

As an aside, I'd note that nobody seems to know just how small this town she mayored actually is. Some sources I've seen say around 5000, the Obama statement said 9000, and the town's wikipedia entry says this:

As of the 2000 census, its population was 5,470. The 2005 estimate gives it a population of 8,471,[1] although the city website lists the population as 6,715.[2]

Could someone please persuade the good people of Wasilla to stand still for a head count.
