  1. What was he (or she) supposed to write? And how does this compare to the AP lead when Obama picked Biden?

    Monolithic? No.

But only 22 percent of the ENTIRE COUNTRY favors a ban on abortion.

Not necessarily. If I remember correct, Bush got more votes from married women than Kerry in 2004.

There are women who are anti-abortion.

"America is still around after 232 years because we have risen to the challenge of every new time, changing to be faithful to our values of equal opportunity for all and the common good.

And I know what that can mean for every man, woman, and child in America. I'm a United States Senator because in 1848 a group of courageous women and a few brave men gathered in Seneca Falls, New York, many traveling for days and nights, to participate in the first convention on women's rights in our history.

And so dawned a struggle for the right to vote that would last 72 years, handed down by mother to daughter to granddaughter - and a few sons and grandsons along the way.

These women and men looked into their daughters' eyes, imagined a fairer and freer world, and found the strength to fight. To rally and picket. To endure ridicule and harassment. To brave violence and jail.

And after so many decades - 88 years ago on this very day - the 19th amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote would be forever enshrined in our Constitution.

My mother was born before women could vote. But in this election my daughter got to vote for her mother for President.

This is the story of America. Of women and men who defy the odds and never give up."

If the words above made you emotional then the choice of Sarah Palin as McCains running mate should make you equally emotional

That is the dumbest analogy I've ever heard. Congratulations.

  7. Zeke, you and I have been pretty civil. Astoundingly so, in fact.

    Don't go spoil it now.

It is embarrassing, but also might be politically useful. Unlike the other candidates, she has no track record on most issues that she can be accused of flip-flopping on. She can make her first position whatever works best politically now.

Well, he does work from home.

As VP, I'm sure AnchorageAnnie will be a fine mother. Run down to the Senate now and then, sure, but the hubby or one of the kids can watch the baby.

My hour's about up. You guys have been great.

DAYTON, Ohio - John McCain picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a conservative who shares his maverick streak, as his vice presidential running mate today in a startling selection on the eve of the Republican National Convention.

Jesus. A kid in Editing 301 could have handled that one.

I don't know, but the perception was that he needed to shore up an area to help him win.

I think a similar reaction would have come for Huckabeen as far as pandering to evangelicals, but I'm not totally convinced either the Leiberman or Romney picks would have been seen as pandering.

People then would have said he's killed any chance he had to get the base of the party out.
