That's a BS comment regarding the parenting question. Weren't people asking the same things when Elizabeth Edwards announced her cancer had returned? And her hubby said they decided to continue the campaign. He caught crap for that.

Perhaps inferred, but I haven't see that tie-in in many posts.

I don't disagree that there's a double standard in the child-rearing/career dept. However, and I'm going to paraphrase my wife -- a liberal mother of three who works from home -- here: She wouldn't question it if this were a 4-year-old or even a 1-year-old. But this is a 4-month old -- an infant! -- with special needs who's mom is going to be criss-crossing the country over the next 2 1/2 months on a hard campaign. She thinks family should always come first and there was Palin standing behind a Country First placard while accepting the VP nod. I'm not saying it's right or wrong -- I'm sure she weighed the decision to be away from this child or to put this child through a crazy schedule between now and November (win or lose, it will slow down after that) -- but I think the question can certainly be asked. This is the mom; she's different than the big sister or the nanny.

If 34 pages is any indication, McCain's getting the ultimate mileage out of his shock value move.

And here I thought the big surprise was Mariotti quit his job because he was asked to run for VP. [/ultimate crossthread]

OK, I've had a few hours to let this pick sink in.

    And I can't stop laughing.

The thought of this woman one heartbeat away is a surreal joke.

She's been a national candidate for 1 afternoon, they've all been running for president for over a year. Give her a chance.

Yeah, I don't see her parenting duties as an issue. People who want to support her will portray her as the courageous mom who decided to have a child with Down syndrome rather than have an abortion. People who are less inclined to support her will say that she made that choice while having better support systems in place than most people who have to make that choice. If she chooses to make an issue of it, she'll be preaching to the choir, and my guess is that she won't, that others will make that point for her and she'll steer clear of it.

Then, if she and McCain are elected they can join forces with the Kennedys and do wonders for awareness.

So many people are making a big deal out of her not telling everyone she was pregnant until late, but undoubtedly she knew the child was going to be learning disabled and had to make a tough decision, that most of us pray we'll never have to make.

I respect the hell out of that.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, and feel free to correct me if I am.

I'm surprised that there hasn't been a mention here of her dealings with the oil companies. So, she negotiated a deal with them whereby every Alaskan gets a $1,000 check every year? Don't get me wrong, if this is the case I applaud her for it, but doesn't that seem a little socialist? Making the oil companies give the people money? I would think conservatives would have a problem with this.

Didn't read every post, did you answer yet who would have gotten a positive reaction from you yet? If you can't, I'm not sure you have anything constructive to contribute here.
