NO reporters want to go to the GOP convention. There's no story, unlike the Clinton-Obama nonsense, a fake story, but at least a story line to fill space and time each day.
Many of them will make plane connections to Anchorage, which is easy to do from the Minneapolis-St.Paul airport.
She will be vetted after the fact. That's never good.

  2. Did the NYT ever run a feature about her in the last few weeks? I don't remember seeing one? (They were running stories on all the potentials).

I just heard McCain had only ever met her once before today?

Luggie, McCain barely knows her, his top staff barely knows her. I can't help but believe that Karl Rove made this pick when McCain told him he couldn't hack Romney on the ticket at any price. It has that complete cynicism and shallow made-for-the-morons-on-cable-news smell to it.

Pretty good editorial in the Fairbanks paper considering they had to rush it:

It’s clear that McCain picked Palin for reasons of image, not substance. She’s a woman. She has fought corruption. She has fought the oil companies. She’s married to a union member. These are portrayals for campaign speeches; they are not policy positions.

The Juneau paper, which is under 10K, says on its website that it's scrambling to put out a special edition, available at certain newsstands. Those folks must be working their asses off.

I said it earlier, but I think there is a real story at the RNC convention. I think McCain was keeping his choice hidden from the GOP as much as he wanted to keep it a secret from the media, in order keep someone from possibly killing it like Biden's folks spiked Bayh's campaign for the veep slot.

McCain doesn't even KNOW she's up for the job. Just plain reckless.
    This will not end well.

And this gem from the Fairbanks paper:

Sarah Palin’s chief qualification for being elected governor of Alaska was that she was not Frank Murkowski.

She was not elected because she was a conservative. She was not elected because of her grasp of issues or because of her track record as the mayor of Wasilla, an office she won in 1996 by collecting 617 votes.

This is the danger for Palin and McCain. America's knowledge of Alaska, hell, my knowledge, is minimal. Her critics there, and she must have them, all governors do, will now get a national platform to shoot their mouth off, and will seem credible to many people just because they're from Alaska.
It was amazing how many alleged liberals in Massachusetts, birthplace of spite, stabbed Kerry in the back in 2004.
