Dammit, deskslave! Should have seen that coming. Just put me in SJ's Twit Olympics.

  2. Keith Olberman actually made it tonight, too.

On a more serious note, wondering how much John Q. Public is paying attention to this story on a Friday night? Obviously we're all obsessed. A lot of us have been watching the coverage from about 7 this morning and won't stop until the lights go out tonight. We've read the NYT, Washington Post, CNN.com and everything in between for reaction. We've discussed it with each other. We've tuned into talk radio and watched "Hardball."

So to us, it feels like it has now overshadowed Obama's speech last night.

But 38 million people tuned in, and it was essentially an iconic night in American politics.

I just don't know if McCain's pick eclipses that, even though it feels like it right now to us.

  3. It was 49-41 Obama this afternoon.

That's about as wide as any presidential poll is ever going to get.

And with firm control of both houses of Congress, they ain't blowing up anything. The message is working.

BTW, as a hockey player........it depends on what hockey mom she was. Was she Mrs.Phipps, screaming and swearing like a friggin maniac for 60 minutes, or like my mom, content to watch her son play?

I don't vote for people based on what sports their kids played, gender, pigmentation, where they reside or were raised etc.

Waylon, even if it doesn't eclipse it, the fact that people are even debating his VP pick, the day after Obama's acceptance speech is impressive.

Folks, this pick doesn't even pass the laugh test.

We're in two wars. Our economy is in the tank.

And this is the best the Republicans can come up with to be a heartbeat away from the presidency?

Folks, this barely sounds better than this:

well it should be 49-41, it's the day after the DNC, Gore got an 18 pt. jump after his speach. I'm just amazed it's even a race...........friggin McCain is 100yrs. old and the Repubs don't deserve to win again.

No matter who wins, I just don't expect a huge change in my life or the U.S. It will be business as usual.....

I can't wait until the Dems start digging up all of the Veepstakes chatter written before the pick by well-known conservative pundits dismissing Palin as a lightweight. I like Palin, I've said it many times today, but hearing the pundits do verbal yoga exalting this pick has made my eyes hurt. Like DeeDee Myers, I hope Palin isn't blamed if this doesn't work. They should have just given her Ted Stevens seat for six years and given her the keynote address next week. She could have been the GOP's Barack Obama of four years ago.

Apparently Palin will make the cover of People Magazine next week. Experience (gone), Celebrity (gone).

He's looking to change the policies of the past 8 years, not change the sky from blue to yellow.

If your main criticism of the Biden pick is that "Aha! He doesn't fit the theme!" . . . then I take that as a very good sign.
