I live in Montgomery County, Maryland.

    Population: 930,000
    Budget: $3.7B

Sarah Palin is governor of Alaska.

    Population: 683,000
    Budget: $2.9B

Therefore, county executive Ike Leggett is a better VP candidate than Sarah Palin.

If anybody listened to Limbaugh today...I'd hate to be the poor sap who had to wash his precious bodily fluids off his chair after the show.

I'm still kinda shocked that McCain picked Palin and it's some 12 hours after the announcement was leaked. It totally submarines McCain's argument about Obama's experience. He probably would have been better off sucking up to Romney, but I guess his pride or Mitt's pride or both got in the way.

This is not a knock on Palin. I'm sure she's a capable leader, but 18 months ago she was a small town mayor. I've covered many small town mayors in my day -- a good chunk of them I wouldn't trust with any office higher than maybe a state representative. And now, the GOP wants a small town mayor to be one perilous heartbeat away from being the leader of the free world?

It's not easy to vet small town pols. Wasn't it just a couple months ago that a small town Oregon mayor was forced to resign because racy pics of her on a city firetruck somehow made it to MySpace? Who really knows what's in Palin's past. It's a huge gamble for McCain, who is continuing to sell out to the right wing.

    Ha! Good point Mr. Barnes:

"McCain would throw away the experience issue if he named a much younger running mate or someone without national stature or a background in world affairs. Obama's response could be devastating: "If experience is so important, why did you pick a running mate who has so little, indeed less than I do?""

I wonder this: Does the pick by McCain signal his intention to run for re-election should he have that opportunity?

    From the NYT:

“She’s going to learn national security at the foot of the master for the next four years, and most doctors think that he’ll be around at least that long,” said Charlie Black, one of Mr. McCain’s top advisers, making light of concerns about Mr. McCain’s health, which Mr. McCain’s doctors reported as excellent in May.

Are these people serious? Oh. My. God.

Besides the ridiculous and demeaning imagery of "teacher's pet" Pallin learning "at the foot of the master," we're going to entrust her with the possible security of our country because Johnny Mac's doctors think he'll live another four years?

FOUR days after giving birth to a baby suffering from Down Syndrome, she went back to work.

HELL YEAH she's my kind of mom!!!

The PUMAs will love her, I'm sure -- especially the part about her being adamantly against all abortion. Oh, and the thing about killing off the polar bears. Both big pluses for those pissed of Hillary backers!

I'm going to bed for the first time 100 percent confident that Obama is going to win.

Oh my god what a horrible decision.

    Thank you McCain!
