I love it when right-wingers claim a mantra of independence. It's kinda cute.

Is it true that McCain only met Palin once before he offered her the post, and that meeting took place some six months ago? I understand the need for a committee to check out possible candidates, but if McCain brought people like Crist and Jindal to his ranch, then why not do the same with Palin?

He met her in February. Their second conversation was last weekend.

I'm sure, however, in their two conversations that McCain became very familiar with her positions on a variety of issues like Iraq, the larger Middle East, nuclear proliferation, health care and social security.

Yes. It's true. I posted the link on here somewhere, I think in the last five pages.

Because McCain didn't pick her. He got bullied into it by Rove and the boys.

    Take that to the bank.

I know it's been said already, but:

If Obama's pick was ultimately a "meh" VP choice, this one is a clear reach.

I am struck by how fascinating it is that this pick can be seen as an attempt to pander to two supposedly opposite types of people: Conservatives and women who may have supported Hillary Clinton.

I look forward to seeing how the coverage continues on this campaign.

Yeah, sure, that's what I meant. I voted for Hillary to represent me as senator and supported her in the primary, but other than that you're spot on.

Pointing out her inexperience and apparent lack of knowledge/interest in international affairs is momentarily satisfying. And then I remember that this country elected GWB ... and reelected him after he already sucked at the job for four years! Remember those people in high school who thought it was uncool to get decent grades? Well, we let those fuckers vote! And you think they're going to care whether she thinks Canuckistan is where Bin Laden is hiding in a cave? Nope. They're going to like that she sounds like a regular person. Remember all that horseshit about GWB being a better guy to have a beer with? (Never mind that if GWB ever had that beer, he'd probably have 12 beers and call you a shithead.) If people like her -- and indications are that most people do -- they'll give her a pass on all the shit she doesn't know. There's plenty of precedent for that.

OT, McCain could have picked Quentin Crisp as his running mate and you'd find some way to see it as genius.

    This is a good one.
