I said this before, earlier in the thread but the bottom line is this: Palin proved how unqualified she is for the position just by accepting the offer.
I think she has a future in the GOP, have her keynote the convention or something, but for McCain to have such a scant history with her, doesn't make me confident in him. It's like bringing in a passerby on the street to come in and babysit your kids.
Palin may prove to be a great campaigner in a "I don't know why, I just "like" her" kind of way." But I suspect the pick has really upset much of the party who are concerned about holding on their Congressional and Senate seats. She'll probably play well in some areas and help bring out voters who wouldn't otherwise have voted, but the McCain camp will have to make sure those numbers exceed the numbers of independents they lose with the pick.

    Wow. That was articulate.

Politically, I don't know if Palin for VP is brilliant or desperate. Maybe a little of both. But, dear God, I hope she does some learning quick just in case something happens to McCain.

    In her defense:

    Who DOES?

Yes, I know a politican possibly up for the job should have an understanding, but in general the VP's role is not so consistently clearly defined, differing from administration to administration.

No one has yet answered this question, and I have no faith that anyone will. If she were exactly the same person, with exactly the same backstory, but her name was David Palin, would she be the VP nominee right now? (Same backstory, obviously, with the exception of having borne five kids. And having been a beauty queen, I suppose.)

I see no circumstance under which she would be. None. Whether that means she's qualified, I don't know. What it means is that there are others who are MORE qualified. Many, many others.

He didn't pick a vice president. He picked a running mate. There's a difference. (Does Biden serve to boost Obama on the campaign trail? Yes, of course. But Biden would also make a good vice president.)

Not only was she a female sportscaster. She named one of her daughters Bristol.

    Paging Mr. Olbermann...

Thanks for making my point. Substitute "he" for "she" in her back story and resume, and then tell me McCain would have made this pick.
I do like that she once dreamed of being a sports reporter, though. :)

Desk Slave: If Obama's last name was Smith and he was a white guy, would he have won the nomination and the hearts of the liberal media? Hell, no. He's a story. He's a celebrity. You can only nominate an empty suit if the candidate wears the suit well and can make a lie sound like truth. That is Obama's talent. Period. I don't like Hillary one bit, but she was more qualified than Obama -- who is no more qualified than Palin. Hell, at least Palin is governor of a state. Obama is merely a political player from Chicago.

And 36 million people got the chance to choose or not choose Obama based on his merits. It's called democracy. McCain foisted his choice upon the country apparently after two meetings.

As for the rest of your post, you're incredibly ignorant.

Being self righteous doesn't make your right, it just makes you self righteous.
