But far more in the mass media age. Some of our greatest presidents like Lincoln and FDR would probably be considered unelectable today because of unappealing physical defects that wouldn't play well on camera and in today's short attention span 30 second soundbyte political world.

We've been gradually dumbing down our candidates in favor of ones with personalities and images that play better on camera for decades.
