Exactly my feeling. There is no rational reason why this should intrigue me like it does.

Michael, I'm not that cosmopolitan. (Someone can use that as a sig if they like; no copyright.)

For all I know, the Globe, or the Post, or somebody else may stylize wedding announcements like that. But it threw me into a genre I had not previously encountered.

Those papers do them as well, but it is true that the NYT's is on a whole other level. What Baker does online for Grantland is something that many people who get the NYT do on their own over breakfast on Sundays, at least in the younger age group. I know multiple people who get the paper and make sure to read those pages because they're pretty funny.

Michael MacCambridge does another "Director's Cut," this time with David Foster Wallace's famous Federer piece.

Anyone else wondering why they copied and pasted a story that is very much still on the Times' website? Considering the Times has a paywall, I would not be thrilled if I were the Times' proprietors. I see they added a few footnotes and words, but at least they could have easily linked and said, "The story as it ran in print is posted here."

And why did they include "Correction Appended" at the top? Certainly, Deadspin has more than shown that Grantland has no such policies. And why didn't they append the correction (which is appended on the Times' site) if they were going to include it?

It having run in PLAY, I very much doubt the Times owned anything more than the first run rights to the piece, and that DFW's estate allowed them to reprint it, either for a fee or for free. Do you really think they just copied it right off the Times website with a left click of the mouse?

As for the correction running as is, it makes a great anecdote in the afterword talking to the fact checker about how apologetic Wallace was to him.

I demand a correction or a new mouse, which I right click to copy and paste.

Surprised that the Grantland AL East reporter has not rung in on the wild card race.

I've got to say that the Bad Quarterbacks League was a thing of brilliance.

If we had started a chapter in here, I'd be all over it.

    Maybe Jones is on vacation?
Maybe good enough that he is on assignment?

Grantland should buy the rights to the unfinished SJ Team Novel and let us finish it there.
