Grantland so far

The quotes were good, but in the setting the story was written, I would have hoped for at least a large portion of the story about a basketball God not living in South Beach or somewhere else when they retired.

West and West Virginia was Bird and French Lick before Bird and French Lick. In fact, Bird in French Lick is the only athlete I can think of, across any sport, who can be so linked to a rural area. Unless Mantle rises from the grave, those are the two guys. Earl Campbell and Nolan Ryan could be others, but the point is when you get this legend on his home turf, take advantage of it.

Maybe there was some hands off restrictions about what could and could not be written (grandkids, where he goes in the town, etc...), but when I read that he was at West's home in West Virginia, I really wanted a lot more local flavor.

Title IX cares? It's a law and all.

You're missing the forest for the trees there, Alma. I understand that the Penn State field hockey team traveling to Iowa should be a consideration. But everyone who talks about conference shifts and the such thinks only about the football end of it.

    That law is a redwood.

Then replace field hockey with the men's tennis team. It's the same thing.

I just went there for the first time in weeks. There are two stories on the front page about the Canadian Football League.

    Really?

The Winnipeg Jets are a hockey team last time I checked.

Here is what I saw in three words or less.
    Al Davis
    Homeland - TV show
    Tebow
    Brewers
    NHL - Jets
    NFL wrapup
    CFL feature on a QB
    Breaking Bad - TV show
    NFL - recap
    NFL gambling
    Comics
    NFL - Sproles
    Feature on a runner
    Georgetown Brawl

To a person in their 20s and 30s, that looks like a pretty solid reading list.

Plus there are numerous stories on the sidebars to dive into.

And not one ad. No flash. No crap.

Yup. My mistake. I didn't read anything. Just skimmed and clicked off. Only thing I can imagine is that I thought the Winnipeg Jets story was a Blue Bombers story, although I am not sure how I got there.

I actually thought it was an NFL story when I went down the first time, but that is still a pretty solid set of stories.

Do you get a special edition of Grantland? There's a strip ad below the flag and another about three stories in at all times for me? They're not intrusive, but they're still ads.

I thought it was odd, but I am still not getting them.

You must have Ad bloc. I don't get them either.
