Or that there have been no posts about Grantland- good or bad for a month.
Either the SJ membership has stopped reading or articles in month of December were not that engaging.

Weinreb should be on the "good" list, too. And Rany Jazayerli.

The Weinreb State College column was an all timer.

Would add Weinreb, Pierce and Chas Stuart to list.

Had never heard of Stuart before but after being introduced to him on Grantland I really love his Smart football site.

I've enjoyed most of Klosterman's pieces.

Anyone reading The Classical? It can get overly intellectual, but I think it's been better in its short run than Grantland. Also, fewer mistakes.

Pierce has been great. After him, the wrestling pieces have been great and so has Barnwell. I liked Leavy and was bored by Whitehead.

Thanks for this. Read a few pieces from here on Deadspin earlier this year, but forgot to check it out when it launched.

I think it's been good. I think, however, it's a huge stretch to say it's been better than Grantland.

I think The Classical may have been better at exceeding modest expectations than Grantland has been at meeting lofty National-esq expectations. But I can name 10 pieces on Grantland that have been better than any one piece I've seen on The Classical.

If you can name ten Classical pieces that are in the neighborhood of...

    1. Oral History of The National.
    2. Jay Kang on Ichiro and Asian identity
    3. Brian Phillips on Roger Federer's last charge at Wimbledon
    4. Weinreb on growing up in Happy Valley
    5. Pierce on the shame of Penn State
    6. Phillips on whether Tebow is proof God exists
    7. Wright Thompson on A Grandfather's Last Whiskey
    8. Chris Jones on Aryton Senna
    9. Jane Leavy on her dad.
    10. Colson Whitehead on poker

...then I would genuinely like to read them. Easy to say, harder to prove something like that.

So if you really believe that, give me 10 links.

Must agree with that. And, just from looking at the front page of The Classical today, there aren't nearly as many stories I'd click on as I would on a typical day on Grantland.

I don't get the Whitehead love, either. I couldn't get into his stuff at all. Part of it is that I couldn't give less of a shit about poker.
