But I truly believe that Molly Lambert's goal in life is to find the most obscure, irrelevant music on Earth and try to make it like she's in on a great secret that the rest of us don't get.

An oral history of the 2004 Pistons-Pacers melee, with comments from Jermaine O'Neal, Stephen Jackson, Ben Wallace and Larry Brown, among others (Ron Artest is quoted, but from archive interviews):

I can't believe O'Neal actually had to pay some damages to that Haddad cretin.

Wearing out "oral history" as fast as they wore out footnotes.

They can't have enough of them as far as I'm concerned. Most interesting things they do.

I agree. That's something that's really in Grantland's wheelhouse, given the web's limitless space and ESPN's contact list.

Don't misunderstand. I enjoy the content.

But just as I enjoy the content in the footnotes, I find the architectural conceit of the "oral history" a little tiresome.

We don't get beaten over the head with Grantland's cutting-edge, under-35 coolness in its oral histories.

    That's one big plus.

Are Pierce and Simmons still feuding?

Agreed, I don't get to Grantland more than once every week or 10 days now, but that was a great story - and I have no use for basketball.
