Speaking of that, I wonder if @YankeeFan believes that the eclipse is actually going to happen.

It's really not. There are at least two solar eclipses every year (and in some years there can be up to four). It's just that their areas are so small that only rarely do they bump up against somewhere somebody actually is.

One of the top books of '32

This book, Faulkner’s grave meditation on race, violence and all the fraught legacies of the South, is the first in which he confronted head-on the poisons of racism. Joe Christmas believes himself to be of mixed race. (His parentage is uncertain.) He has escaped from a miserable childhood to the town of Jefferson, Miss., where he unleashes his demons. Lena Grove has come there, too, looking for the father of the child she is carrying while Christmas fulfills his wretched destiny. This book is less daring structurally than The Sound and the Fury or As I Lay Dying. Though time still folds back on itself, so that events seem to take place in a zone beyond normal chronology, the flashbacks are easier to follow. But the force of Faulkner’s genius is in entirely in play.

well, I guess I meant more of a big deal in terms of people paying attn to it. I wasn't aware there were four per year. What a hype

Eclipse was to begin here at 12:01 CDT. At 12:00:50, the sun went behind a cloud for the first time all day.

Even if it's somewhat obscured, it's going to get dark in the middle of the afternoon, which is cool.

It's nice that everyone is trusting the scientists. How do we know they're not in the pocket of Big Astronomy?

YF usually puts science and scientists in scare quotes. Have to stick to SJ.com GOP Style.

Just found out that I'll be in the path of totality for the 2024 eclipse. Gonna start selling parking spots in my yard tomorrow.
