We're down to T-minus three weeks. My brother-in-law is flying into and out-of-the-way town in western Nebraska. No interstate or major highway nearby, but it's directly in the path.

My sister told me yesterday they only have 100 landing spots -- and there's a waiting list that's at nearly 250. He has one of the spots and they're going to fly in on Sunday and camp outside the airport the night before with my parents, who are going to drive over on Sunday from Fort Collins.

Just did a casual search for hotel rooms the night before. Cheyenne has nothing. Fort Collins has nothing. A two-room bungalow nine miles from Casper is going for $2,400. A Best Western in Salem, Oregon, is fetching $2000 -- but you at least get breakfast.

I've heard of many people in Wyoming and Nebraska who have farms in the middle of the path are renting out spots to park for hundreds of dollars. Just to park. Crazy.

Guy I know socially has found a room in Greenville, SC which he says is not exorbitant, but is reluctant to talk real dough.

    Hope it's not cloudy.

There is that risk, but it's late morning/near noon and what I've been reading, the best places to get great views are Wyoming and Nebraska. Which means it'll snow.

My house is about half a mile outside of the totality for that one. But our farm is in it. I'll reserve parking for SJers.

Path of totality is 210,000 square miles.

If you can't find a place to park for 2+minutes for free . . .

This reminds me of the time the 1982 World's Fair came to my town. Landlords thought they would make out like a bandit (there will be 11 million visitors!) and were sorely disappointed.

    Authorities are expecting gridlock.

I'm mostly joking, but that's a lot of money and sort of ridiculousness to risk on nature! I'm in Fort Collins and just saw we're supposed to have a 95.4 percent eclipse. I think I'll be good with that. Will be funny to see images of I-25 clogged in Wyoming. Never thought it was possible. I once got pulled over by a state trooper just south of Casper because I'm pretty sure he just wanted to talk to someone.

Trying to talk Mrs Fly into a trip south to visit my sister. Just so happens she lives in the totality zone and I'm expecting to still be out on medical leave. It's only an eight or so hour drive. :)
    We'll see what happens.

I'll drive to South Dakota and Nebraska -- but not Arkansas. ;)

Well, it's more than two minutes. Yes, that's the totality, but we're talking about three hours from beginning to end, though once it returns to, say, 80 percent, it's over and time to get on the road. I'll be happy with open roads on the drive back.

So we'll get L.A. traffic during the 1984 Olympics.
