Ha, no doubt. 95.4 percent is pretty cool. But it's a rare chance to get totality. Another brother-in-law was in Stonehedge late in the 20th century for a total eclipse and said it was epic.

I've got vacation days. It's worth it and hopefully the weather is good. If not, no big deal. My really close friends are flying out from San Francisco. We're going to go up to Rushmore. It'll be good no matter what.

Apropos of nothing, but the coolest thing about Stonehenge is the fact that there are working farms that zone right up to the walkway people use to walk around the stones. Some dude can stand at the fence, look out and drink his morning cup of tea while the rest of the suckers ... er tourists ... have to pay £30 for the same view.

Oh, I was there several times.

We also got kicked out of the house we were renting during college that summer because the owner thought he would make a bundle during the fair. He didn't make a nickel. The apartment I wound up moving to had previously evicted all its tenants in anticipation for a windfall. But they quickly realized no windfall was coming and started renting the units out again. :p

This will be one time in the summer I will be glad to be away from Microville. It's gonna be a mess.

Hotels are sold out for miles, so if you're traveling through places such as Mount Vernon, Ill., or Cape Girardeau, Mo. and need a place to stay, there's no room at the inn. Classes at Southern Illinois were supposed to start the day of the eclipse but have been pushed back to Tuesday (allowing incoming students an extra day of party time).

A few administrators have been quoted saying that the publicity from this eclipse might somehow help enrollment numbers, which have been sinking like a stone for the past 10 years or so.

Acquaintance of mine told me he and his wife are booked for Greenville, SC for this eclipse. Any restaurant/pub tips I can pass on?

Having a vacation and friends planned around it certainly makes it worth it. I never thought that far ahead! Only have to go like 90 miles northeast to see totality. Usually a pretty empty land in that area. And I don't even really want to see what it's like that day. So I'll stick around here. Will still remember it. There was a majority eclipse when I was in high school that I still remember being a pretty big deal. This is even more so.
